Ahern seeks veto on EU tax matters

Irish head seeks assurance that EU tax matters can be vetoed

Outgoing Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will call on the European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso to ensure that the Irish has the power of veto over tax issues under the Lisbon Treaty.

Ahern said he wouls ask the president to confirm that decisions on EU taxation must be unanimous and that countries can exercise a veto, reported RTE.
