Singer safe bet as Bupa's new FD

Private healthcare giant gains new FD wtih betting background

Tom Singer has been appointed as Bupa’s financial director and a main board member with Professor Ed Byrne AO as a non-executive director.

Singer, 44, succeeds Ray King who takes over as chief executive at the company’s AGM on 15 May following Val Gooding's retirement.

Singer was previously chief operating officer at bookmakers William Hill, after four years as FD. Prior to that he was FD and main board director at Moss Bros Plc and has held managerial posts at McKinsey and Price Waterhouse.

'I am delighted to be joining a business which has achieved such considerable success in recent years. It has an enviable track record in organic growth and strategic acquisition. I look forward to playing a constructive part in its future expansion,' he said.

Professor Byrne AO is executive dean of University College London's biomedical sciences faculty and head of the Royal Free and University College Medical School. He has held a number of posts in commercial, academic and research organisations in Australia, where Bupa has significant business interests.
