Martin Scicluna, former chairman of Deloitte, is among six people to receive honorary degrees from the University of Leeds.

The University is to confer honorary degrees on BBC deputy director general Mark Byford, Nobel prizewinning French physicist Albert Fert, Nobel prizewinner and Britain's first Asian woman peer Baroness Flather, Sir Christopher Rose, member of the Privy Council, journalist Polly Toynbee, as well as Scicluna.

Scicluna received a degree in business commerce from the University in 1973 and immediately joined Deloitte where he remained throughout his career.

He has served as ICAEW chairman of the auditing committee and LSCA chairman. Scicluna recently retired as chairman of Deloitte, a position he has held since 1995, and will receive an honorary doctorate of laws in July.
