David Cameron vowed that the Conservatives will cut taxes 'over time'.

He claims the tax cuts are a bid to help families that are struggling with soaring bills.

Cameron addressed rising inflation in a keynote speech and has ruled out specific tax cuts at the next election.

He said: 'When Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling claim inflation is only 2% a year, you have to ask where on earth they do their shopping,' The Sun reported.

In the last year, food prices have soared by up to 30%, energy bills by at least 10% and petrol by 8%.

Cameron added that, 'a new Conservative government will be on the side of the working people, with a long-term plan to fix the country's finances and make sure public money is spent properly.'
