Police step up probe into accountant's death

Detectives renew public calls for help to solve suspected murder of accountant

Written by AccountancyAge.com

Police are appealing for new information to unravel events that led to the suspected murder of accountant Andrew Ramsey on the second anniversary of his death.

Customs officers investigating a huge VAT fraud questioned Ramsey, 51, just weeks before his death, police revealed last week. Shortly after the meeting Ramsey disappeared, leading the police to suspect that his death is linked to the fraud inquiry.

Det Chief Insp John McGovern said: "There is the distinct possibility that Mr Ramsay's involvement with HMRC led directly to his abduction and death," the Mirror reported.

Appealing for public help, he added: "Every piece of information may be significant."

Ramsey's body still hasn't been found despite his skull being discovered in the Firth of Cylde last April.
