Competition in the UK accountancy software market for small businesses is set to become even fiercer as Scandinavian group e-conomic launches its online offering this week.
The company first launched in 2003 in Denmark and has expanded rapidly with 1,000 practices, including KPMG and Ernst & Young, using the software in Europe. These practices use the software to service 11,000 clients.
E-conomic has opted for a software-as-a-service model and will be offering software to accountants for free and charging the clients of accountants a monthly fee of £13.50.
The move of the new player will offer SMEs more choice than ever before. Established players Sage and Iris are still competing aggressively in the SME space, Microsoft has launched a business software programme while MYOB and Mamut continue to grow strongly.
