More than 100,000 families did not receive a letter of apology following the loss of their personal details by HM Revenue & Customs last year.

HMRC were to apologise to the families involved but 1.4 % of the 7.25million households involved are still waiting as their address have not been updated.

The latest mishap was criticised by Liberal Democrat work and pensions spokesman Danny Alexander, various reports said.

'It is bad enough people are now at risk of fraud and identity theft. but the least the ministers could do is make a serious effort to contact each family to apologise,' he said.
