Treasury mulls plans to levy tax on companies with car parks
The Treasury is considering plans that will allow local authorities to levy a
tax on companies with car parks.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the Treasury is also deciding
whether employee parking spaces should be classified as a benefit in kind liable
to tax. The measures are said to be a response to traffic congestion.
The South Gloucestershire council has received £675,000 for its plans to
implement such a scheme. A similar scheme is also in place in Nottingham.
The schemes could see companies have to pay a levy of £350 a year by 2014.
