Osborne attacks Brown for 'economic incompetence'

Shadow chancellor gearing up to highlight flaws in the government's handling of public finances and reforms of City regulation

George Osborne will attack Gordon Brown for 'economic incompetence' today.

The Daily Mail reported that the shadow chancellor will slate the government's handling of public finances and will also criticise the planned reforms to City regulation being proposed by chancellor Alistair Darling.

Osborne will pinpoint the 'double whammy' of rising government spending on benefits and falling tax income as a result of the financial crisis.

The shadow chancellor has said that under a Conservative government a stronger and more independent Bank of England, independently verified public accounts and independently monitored fiscal rules would be set up.
