Tories call for Sport England to audit funding

Conservatives want body to control finances and encourage sport participation

Sport England should act as the 'bank and auditor' of sport funding in order to encourage mass participation in sports the Tories have said.

In a comment piece in the Daily Telegraph shadow sport and Olympics minister Hugh Robertson said: 'We need to use this restored lottery funding to target mass participation sport.

'This funding should be guaranteed for four or five years, with Sport England acting as the bank and auditor.'
