MCA chief: 'we are not treading on IBC's toes'

Management Consultancies Association boss Peter Hill refutes claims that he wants the associaition to set standards for individual consultants

Written by Kevin Reed

The Management Consultancies Association chief has refuted allegations that the trade body is looking at moving into standard-setting for individual consultants.

Peter Hill, chief executive of the MCA, said he 'must improve his communication skills' following reports that he said the body wanted to set standards for consultants, and not just act as a trade body for the consulting industry firms.

KPMG's Alan Downey, the new president of the revamped consultants representative the Institute of Business Consulting, made the claim in Accountancy Age. The IBC offers individuals the chance to take a chartered consulting qualification.

'It's not an issue at all, we've no aspirations to enter that market at an individual level,' said Hill. 'We want to improve standards for the firms [we represent], there's no conflict with the IBC.'
