Auditors question expense claims of senior Scotland Yard officer

Scotland Yard assistant commissioner, Andy Hayman, sees £15,000-worth of expenses queried by auditors

Written by Penny Sukhraj

Auditors have flagged up concerns over £15,000-worth of expenses claimed by the assistant commissioner at Scotland Yard.

Andy Hayman's expenses include claims for drinks and an overnight stay at a Heathrow hotel, despite the fact that he had use of a central London apartment, The Times alleged.

They are also higher than the expenses of other members of the Metropolitan Police's senior management board.

Questions over the bill of Hayman, also a head of Specialist Operations at Scotland Yard, have arisen after a report on his expenditure was forwarded to the professional standards subcommittee of the Metropolitan Police Authority.

The latest scrutiny of expenses claimed by police is not, however, linked to an ongoing investigation into the alleged abuse of American Express credit cards elsewhere in the force, which led to a £4.7m hole in the Yard's accounts.
