Deloitte has hired Nick Ritblat, the son of property magnate Sir John Ritblat, to its real estate practice.
Ritblat is considered one of the most influential figures in the UK property market, having spent 19 years at British Land as an executive director and president of the British Property Federation, where he played a major role in the launch of REITs and the establishment of the Property Industry Alliance.
Deloitte's hiring of Ritblat is a continuation of the firm's recent additions of business luminaries, which include Margaret Ewing, Sir Digby Jones, Kari Hale from the FSA, and Dame Sue Street, previously Permanent Secretary at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
Ritblat is expected to advise on strategy and originating transactions for clients within the firm's real estate practice, which encompasses strategic advice, real estate, capital raising, mergers and acquisitions and tax and accounting.
John Connolly, Deloitte' senior partner and chief executive, said the firm is delighted with the appointment.
'Nick has been widely recognised for his superb representation of UK property interests. His broad experience will provide a real competitive edge for our firm in this important sector. His appointment follows other senior industry appointments which enhance our ability to deliver innovative ideas and value to our clients,' said Connolly.
Ritblat said he looked forward to working with Deloitte in a role which 'will enable me to continue making a contribution to the success of the UK property market.'
'I have been hugely impressed by the quality and independence of the work undertaken by Deloitte and look forward to helping to bring the firm to a wider audience,' said Ritblat.
