BDO Stoy Hayward has purchased tax advisers Chiltern.
The acquisition of the £20m revenue tax specialist boosts BDO fee income figures to £350m, to bring it closer to Grant Thornton in the battle for fifth spot in the Accountancy Age Top 50 survey of firms.
BDO's national head of tax Paul Eagland said the frim made its move because Chiltern had gained 'an enviable reputation' as the leading tax consultancy outside the major firms.
'A combination of the BDO Stoy Hayward and Chiltern tax teams will result in one of the most powerful and comprehensive tax service offerings in the UK,' said Eagland.
Chiltern's staff will relocate to BDO's Baker Street office in London in the early part of next year. The brand will remain.
