Capgemini offers Google alternative to Microsoft Office

Capgemini steps out to offer an online alternative to Microsoft Office, known as Google Apps

Major corporates will be given the opportunity to switch from Microsoft Office to take up Google's web-based business software by Capgemini.

The range of basic business tools offered by Google, such as word processing and spreadsheets, are run online instead of held on company servers or desktops.

The move by Capgemini could create the first real rival for Microsoft's ubiquitous office suite of products, Capgemini head of business development Andrew Gough told the Daily Telegraph.

Google Apps would be a genuine competitor when it can offer an equivalent range of tools to Office, Gough added, which was only a matter of time.
