Students with a degree in accounting stand to earn more money in the workplace than any other graduate, a study by the Institute of Education has revealed.

According to the research a male graduate with an accounting degree will earn a staggering 42.15% more than someone with an Arts degree, while female accounting graduates will earn 37.12% more than their Arts counterparts.

Accountants are also ahead of graduates with degrees in medicine, law and the various engineering disciplines.

'Some graduates in highly valued subjects, such as accountancy, will continue to profit from the amount they spent on their degrees,' said Dr Anna Vignoles, who led the research for the IOE.

The findings will add further credence to the argument that degrees that are more valuable in the workplace should attract higher tuition fees.
