Audit gives SA parliament thumbs up

First time in three years that audit is unqualified

South Africa's auditor general has given the South African parliament a clean financial bill of health for the first time in three years.

'The audit report for 2006/07 is a clean one. Indeed, no qualification… whatsoever (is needed),' said parliamentary secretary, Zingile Dingani.

This is a major improvement.

In the previous three years, the AG found that parliament had failed to manage public money properly. Its failures included inadequate asset management, surplus funds not paid to treasury, debt recovery incomplete and staff appraisals not provided, SABC News reported.
