KPMG only firm with more than 400 listed audits

KPMG leaps through 400-client barrier to head up stock market rankings

Written by Nicholas Neveling

KPMG has become the only firm in the UK with more than 400 listed audit clients, placing it firmly at the top of the total audit client rankings.

Data compiled over the third quarter of 2007 by Hemscott showed that KPMG had boosted its total audit client numbers with 22 audit wins to crack the 400 barrier.

PricewaterhouseCoopers won 13 new clients to hold second postion, although its position as the leading FTSE 100 auditor means that it remains well ahead in terms of market cap and client profit.

Other major moves were on the AIM market, where the merger between Grant Thornton and Robson Rhodes saw GT consolidate its position as the leading auditor on the junior market.

The tie-up with Robson Rhodes brought 43 new clients into the Grant Thornton fold, boosting its numbers to 213.

The FTSE 350 market remained static, with the Big Four maintaining their dominance of the market.
