Suggestions that the Conservative Party would scrap IR35 rules and other red tape measures look increasingly unlikely following an appearance by its shadow chief secretary to the Treasury on the BBC.
Speaking on the BBC’s Newsnight programme, Philip Hammond said the Tories considered the recommendations made by its economic competitiveness policy group (led by former cabinet minister John Redwood) as merely 'good ideas'.
This is despite Redwood's group spending the last 20 months outlining business and tax policies for the Tory manifesto.
It is now the job of the shadow cabinet to decide which of the recommendations from Redwood and his team should become official party policy.
