Watchdog denies blocking transparency

The audit oversight body denies it drags its heels over greater transparency

The Professional Oversight Board will shortly become subject to the Freedom
of Information Act as part of the Companies Act.

‘We did have some concerns. I wouldn’t say we’ve come to this kicking and
screaming,’ said director Paul George.

Last year George voiced the regulator’s disappointment about the FOI clauses
in the Act.

The reports will be candid.

‘We are very conscious that the increased transparency brings

with it a responsibility and that we need to be appropriate in our comments.
But equally we have a responsibility to draw attention to shortcomings,’ he
said.
