Symonds to quit as AstraZeneca CFO

Pharmaceutical company launches search for finance boss after Jon Symonds heads for MD role at Goldman Sachs

Jon Symonds wil be leaving his role as CFO of FTSE 100 giant AstraZeneca the company announced this morning.

Symonds, one of the UK's most respected finance bosses will take up a managing director's position at investment bank powerhouse Goldman Sachs in September.

The corporate said: 'AstraZeneca announces the resignation of its chief financial officer, Jon Symonds, with effect from the end of July'.

Symonds joined Zeneca in 1997 as CFO after 17 years at KPMG. Within months of joining, he was involved in the merger negotiations with Swedish pharmaceutical company, Astra. After completion of the merger in 1998, Jon was appointed as CFO for AstraZeneca.

An external search is underway to identify a successor, AstraZeneca stated.
