Deloitte values Premiership promotion at £60m

Big Four firm predicts huge windfall for football teams moving up from Championship, as final approaches

The final team to gain promotion from the Championship League to the FA Premier League stand to earn £60m from TV deals, according to calculations by Deloitte.

The Deloitte estimate reflected the increased value of the new three-year TV rights deals secured by the Premiership from domestic and overseas broadcasters.

What this means is the teams contesting Championship play-off final are battling for the richest prize in the world for a single football match, and more than double the revenue the promoted clubs will have received from playing in the Championship.

This is a 50% increase on the £40m Premiership clubs are receiving this season in the last year of a three-year TV rights deal.

Seven clubs are fighting for the final play off berth. These are Derby County, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton, Stoke City, Preston North End and Colchester United.

The final will take place on 28 May.
