Sage apologises for Line 50 problems

Software group says it is doing all it can to remove glitches from latest version of Line 50

Written by Nicholas Neveling

Sage, the FTSE 100 accounting software group, has apologised to customers for glitches in the latest version of its Line 50 package, and promised that it is doing all it can to solve the problems.

A number of Sage users have contacted Accountancy Age to complain about problems with Sage Line 50 2007. Users have said that the reporting side of the software does not work at all, and have also complained that the patches to solve problems are too big and take too long to download.

Greg Ford, managing director of the Sage accountants division, acknowledged that Sage had encountered problems with the latest version of Line 50, but promised that Sage was doing all it could to solve the problems.

'I must apologise to customers for the problems they have encountered. We have done all we can to resolve the problems. Line 50 has a fantastic track record, and it is upsetting and frustrating when things go wrong' said Ford.

Ford said the problems with Line 50 2007 were a result of new enhancements to the package. More powerful reporting features were added to Line 50 2007. This is where the problems cropped up.

'There was a significant change with the introduction of this new technology. We wanted to make Line 50 2007 a better product, but the technology has gone against us. We a responding well and I am proud of the way we are putting it right,' he said.

Ford said Sage had written to all the accounting practices and business partners that had experienced problems, and had made patches available on the web for customers who had experienced problems.
