Just months after recruiting former CBI director Sir Digby Jones, Deloitte has managed to lure another high-profile personality to join its advisory team.

Dame Sue Street, permanent secretary at the Department of Culture, Media & Sport, will join Deloitte's public sector practice in January following her retirement from the civil service.

Recruiting high-profile figures is part of the Deloitte's bold ambition to generate revenues of £2bn by 2008.

Dame Sue is one of the most influential women in Whitehall and has held a number senior roles in the public sector. Her role at Deloitte will involve advising on the government's public sector reform agenda. She will work closely with the firm's head of government and public sector Mike Turley and Heather Hancock, who runs Deloitte's public policy business.

Dame Sue said she had always believed in collaboration between the public and private sector.

'Our public services need to be intelligent and discerning clients. And consultants offering their expertise need to enhance the capability, pace and professionalism of public service delivery,' she said.

Deloitte chief executive John Connolly said Dame Sue's appointment was one of a number the firm was making across its industry teams.
