Aspiring accountant wins memorial scholarship

Scholarship set up in memory of London bombing victim

Written by AccountancyAge.com

A 17-year-old Scottish student training to becoming an accountant has been awarded the Helen Jones Scholarship, created by the parents of the 28-year-old accountant, who was killed in the Russell Square blast in July last year.

Emma McDowall, 17, said she was honoured to receive award saying it was a ‘huge ambition’ of hers to pursue a career in chartered accountancy or stockbroking.

The scholarship was designed to help pupils at Jones' former school, Lockerbie Academy, pursue a career in chartered accountancy.

McDowall will begin studying for her accounting and finance degree at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh in September.

Jones had worked at both PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG.
