KPMG has appointed an expert witness from the Equitable Life trial as its new
head of audit.
Richard Bennison, who is currently a KPMG financial services audit partner,
was due to appear in the case on Ernst & Young’s side, and he succeeds
Michael Hughes, who has gone on to become chairman of KPMG’s Global Audit
Steering Group.
Bennison said: ‘I am delighted and privileged to be inheriting the leadership
of an outstanding audit practice that is widely recognised for the quality of
its audit opinion. The audit practice continues to enjoy strong growth and win
new clients. Audit remains the bedrock of the firm and has a vital role to play
in supporting the capital markets.’
John Griffith-Jones, UK chief executive at KPMG, said: ‘Under Michael Hughes’
leadership our audit practice has flourished, and I am sure he will enjoy the
challenges that his new international role will entail.
‘Richard Bennison has a first-class record in audit, and I am confident he
will lead our audit practice in maintaining the high levels of quality and
integrity that make KPMG an auditor of choice.’
