Microsoft begins push for PeopleSoft's clients

Microsoft Business Solutions has begun a big push to win PeopleSoft customers that may be looking to switch supplier following the software company's takeover by Oracle.

PeopleSoft customers have been offered a 'migration path' from their current business software to any one of the four Microsoft Business Solutions' products: Great Plains, Navision, Axapta, or Solomon.

'The migration program was developed to help PeopleSoft customers and partners respond to business challenges resulting from Oracle Corp.'s recent acquisition of PeopleSoft,' MBS said in a statement.

After Oracle won its triumphant battle for control of rival PeopleSoft in late December, Oracle chief Larry Ellison promised to maintain both sets of software for the near future. He extended this pledge for PeopleSoft's JD Edwards' software.

'We intend to enhance PeopleSoft 8, develop a PeopleSoft 9, and enhance JD Edwards 5 and develop a JD Edwards 6,' said Ellison. 'We intend to immediately extend and improve support for JD Edwards and PeopleSoft customers worldwide.'

Microsoft will offer discounts to PeopleSoft customers that migrate to its business software no later than 22 June.
