The presents that traditionally arrive for couples after their nuptials will be absent for many after the collapse last week of the popular dotcom, The Gift Registry.

Begbies Traynor was appointed as administrator after costs involved in running the business led to unsustainable losses of over £300,000.

The firm said wedding guests will be able to obtain refunds on debit or credit card orders, but no further gift deliveries will be made.

Chris Herron, administrator, said: 'Begbies Traynor has written expressing our deep regret that The Gift Registry has ceased trading and apologising for the inconvenience caused to customers, and of course to the entire staff who have lost their jobs.'

'As Administrators we are endeavouring to find buyers for the assets, which include the order book, a customer database, office equipment and some high-quality computer hardware.'
