Battle of the professions looms

Legal and accounting institutions could be heading for an ugly battle after the Law Society instructed a barrister to present part of its case to the Home Office as part of the money laundering consultation.

Written by David Rae

Sir Sidney Kentridge, QC, of Brick Court Chambers, will present an opinion to the Home Office to put across the Society's arguments on whether accountants should be given powers of privilege, reported The Lawyer.

It mirrors a move by the ICAEW, which instructed a colleague of Kentridge's earlier this year, and used it to try and persuade the Home Office to extend legal privilege to accountants.
