Revenue claws back tax credits overpayment

Low-income families could have child or working tax credits reclaimed because of overpayment by the Inland Revenue.

The National Association of Citizens' Advice Bureaux claims many families have had benefits reduced by up to a third.

It said the cuts were made without reasonable notice.

The Treasury has urged people to inform the Inland Revenue of any changes to circumstances as soon as possible to 'prevent over payments mounting up'.

Changes to circumstances such as a pay rise or children leaving home can considerably alter entitlement.
