A massive proportion of small business heads feel the government has little or no understanding of what their needs are and are unable to help them, according to a new report.

Ernst & Young's annual enterprise survey showed that 85% of entrepreneurs are frustration with Whitehall's efforts to offer assistance to business. This figure also represents a rise from 80% who felt frustrated in January 2002.
It was also reported in the survey that only 2% of respondents believe the government gives high priority to entrepreneurship, although this figure is double what it was last year.
Only a quarter of those surveyed felt the government had created an environment in which business can flourish, while concerns over red tape, especially new British and European legislation proved one of the major bugbears.
