Enterprise Bill will aid consumers

Consumers and competitors will be able to use the government's Enterprise legislation to seek damages if harmed by anti-competitive practices, trade minister Melanie Johnson has told MPs in the Commons.

She said the Enterprise Bill 'will enable those harmed to follow a decision,establishing a breach of competition law, with a claim for damages before aspecialist competition body'.

Johnson was replying to a question from Nottingham North Labour MP GrahamAllen, who asked whether the Tribunal would also provide independent reviews ofdecisions under the Competition Act by hearing appeals from third parties.

Details of the legislation are currently being debated in detail by a Commons committee.
