Leigh calls for Tory income tax cuts
Tory MP Edward Leigh calls on the party to take 14 milliion low-paid workers out of tax threshold

Accounts Committee chairman Edward Leigh has called on his party to
announce tax cuts that he claimed would take 14 million low paid people out of
the income tax bracket.
Leigh has called for the
Conservative party
commit to raising the income tax threshold up to £15,000. He also wants the
top rate threshold increased to £47,000.
He expected the cost of the plan would be £44bn, which could be achieved by
holding future spending to inflation rather than the 2% increase in real terms
envisaged by Labour.
‘Such a change should be phased in over the lifetime of a future Conservative
government and could be paid for without cutting public spending or increasing
borrowing,’ said Leigh on his
blog
.
