SIR MIKE RAKE is to take on the role of president of the Confederation of Business and Industry (CBI).
Rake (pictured) is the former European, UK and International KPMG chairman and was until earlier this year, chairman of easyJet – which listed on the London Stock Exchange this month.
His impressive portfolio includes roles as chairman of BT Group, deputy chairman of Barclays and director at McGraw-Hill. He also chairs the Henley Festival and a member of the board of the Transatlantic Business Council, a membership association of 60 plus global member companies with a focus on transatlantic trade.
Previously, he has worked as the first chairman of the UK Commission for Employment Skills and chairman of Business in the Community.
Rake will succeed Roger Carr as president at the CBI in June when members will be asked to endorse his appointment at the annual general meeting.
Rake said: “I am delighted to have been asked to take on the role of president of the CBI at this critical stage of economic development.
“The CBI provides an objective apolitical view on those matters which are most important from a business perspective, ensuring the economy can start to grow and create jobs, particularly for the young.
“I very much look forward to working with John Cridland [CBI director general] and to continuing the excellent work carried out by Sir Roger.”
