FORMER J SAINSBURY chief financial officer Darren Shapland has been recruited as non-executive director at Carpetright.

Shapland (pictured) was previously J Sainsbury CFO for five years until 2010 when he took on a group director role.

Prior to Sainsbury, Shapland was group finance director at Carpetright and before that FD of Superdrug Stores, he has also held several senior and operational roles at Arcadia.

Currently Shapland is chairman of the J Sainsbury bank and non-executive director at bookies Ladbrokes, both of which he will continue.

Lord Harris of Peckham, chairman and CEO of Carpetright, said: "I am delighted that Darren has agreed to join Carpetright's board as a non-executive director. He was an outstanding finance director when he was with us before and his subsequent success at Sainsbury's speaks for itself."
