SOFTWARE GIANT SAGE has launched its most popular accountancy product on Apple's iPhone.

Sage's latest product, 50 Accounts 2012, includes Sage 50 Accounts Mobile which can be downloaded through iTunes and accessed through iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

However, it will not be available on other mobile devices such as BlackBerry and Android-based phones until later this year.

The software includes four previous iterations of the program, which allows users to view customer data from older editions of Sage 50. Formerly, an accountant would have needed the same version of the product as their customer to view their information.

"Businesses today demand access to accurate, up to date information whether they are in the office or on the road. The development of Sage 50 Accounts Mobile has been fuelled both by the growth in smartphone adoption and an increase in demand for mobile business applications from across our customer base," said Geoff Phillips, product manager for connected services in Sage's small business division.

Update:

Sage 50 Accounts 2012 is now available on Blackberry. The company hopes to make the product available for android phones later this year.

Not quite

Sage 50 Accounts 2012 is not available for purchase through the iTunes App Store.

A free iPhone app that allows remote access to data held in a Sage 50 Accounts 2012 installation *is* available through the App Store.

This client app is also available for the BlackBerry through BlackBerry App World.

Full Sage 50 on iPad

Our concern about the iPhone is the size of the screen and the keyboard - which are not really ideal for mobile working.

If a small amount of data on a small screen doesn't quite meet your need, please look into the Online50 offering.

The iPad has a bigger screen and the possibility of a bluetooth full size keyboard.

Online50 customers can access the full version of Sage50 (from Sage Line50 v8 to Sage 50 2011 - with 2012 due shortly and at all levels including Accounts, Accounts Plus and Accounts Professional) as well as MS Office, MS Exchange and a range of other windows software used by your office.
