MINING COMPANY Afferro has appointed Bevan Metcalf as its chief financial officer.

The company, which has iron ore projects in Cameroon and Liberia, announced the appointment today.

Metcalf started his career in New Zealand at ICI before joining Beecham Pharmaceuticals. He established the European head office of the newly merged SmithKline Beckman group in Belgium. Metcalf was later appointed finance director of Orion Pharmaceuticals and is currently finance director of African Eagle Resources.

Luis da Silva, chief executive of Afferro, said: "We are very pleased that Bevan has agreed to dedicate all his time to Afferro. He has been CFO on a part-time basis since January 2008 but the demands on his time have grown in line with the growth and development of the company."

Metcalf is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand and has also been granted ACA membership.
