ZOLFO COOPER ADMINISTRATORS have been called to furniture retailer Habitat.

Fraser Gray, Peter Savill, Anne O'Keefe and Scott Gailliefrom Zolfo Cooper have been appointed to the business today which has approximately 33 stores in the UK and employs about 870 staff.

Home Retail, the owner of Argos and Homebase, has bought the brand, intellectual property and three central London stores for an estimated £24.5m from private equity owners Hilco. Approximately 130 people will transfer across to Home Retail as part of the sale.

Gray, partner at Zolfo Cooper, said: "The company has been suffering from cash flow difficulties in recent months. This, combined with the current tough trading environment for retailers, has led to the need for our appointment.

"We are pleased to have secured an immediate sale of part of the business which represents the best return available to creditors at the present time."

"The company will continue to fulfill existing customer orders and honour all vouchers issued prior to the appointment."

Honouring all vouchers ?

We were given a Habitat £100 gift card as our wedding present. We were so disappointed to find out from Habitat Tottenham Court Road store yesterday that they no longer accept gift cards issued before 24th June 2011 claiming that we have passed the grace redemption period of 16th September. We do not know that Habitat went into administration and it was just one month that this date had passed and we have been away for our honeymoon. The fact that the new owner do not accept any liability of Returns and Gift cards is unfair to all existing customers and is unacceptable.

Smoke and Mirrors

It's all smoke and mirrors - seemingly a scam to most people.I was sold goods that are faulty, the replacement goods are faulty and they refuse to refund. Say that Habitat isn't trading and that H. Realisations has no responsibility because it is a compnay created solely to administer the defunct Habitat. Yet we get an email from H. Realisations pointing us to the Habitat website that is owned and operated by Home Retail Group, who also say they have no responsibility for the old company. It seems that H. Realisations have much to do with Home Retail Group, which is a trading company - on their own terms. I am over £1,000 out of pocket. None of those vultures give a toss.
