NICK COOPER is leaving FTSE 250 exploration company Salamander Energy.

The CFO has quit the Asia gas business and will join Ophir Energy as CEO. Salamander has begun a search for his successor and "anticipates an orderly transition", it said in a statement to the stock exchange.

"I have been working with Nick since start up. Today the company is a FTSE 250 constituent with a strong management team and an extensive portfolio with rising production and cash flow," said Salamander Energy CEO James Menzies.

He continued: "On behalf of the board I would like to thank Nick for his contribution. As a co-founder, his resourcefulness and drive have been great attributes and we wish him every success in the future."
