CIPFA HAS MADE resources director Chris Harris redundant, Accountancy Age has learned.
Harris is the only one of the six directors to go, as part of a cost-cutting redundancy drive.

A spokesman said that no-one else is currently under threat from redundancy. The institute's staff members were informed of the decision this week.
The institute has been suffering from a far smaller growth in membership in the past few years compared with the other major accountancy institutes.
The cuts in public services are expected to affect CIPFA, where the majority of its members are based.

CIPFA Survival
In line with the British Government austerity plan and shrinking public sector vacancies, it becomes difficult for CIPFA to recruit new students. For long term survival CIPFA needs to seriously consider overseas expansion or joint venture with renowned body of accounting, something like what CIMA is pursing with AICPA.

CIPFA Student Recruits
According to Hays extracts from PO Magazine, most CIPFA students come from AAT route and therefore they do not have to fund expensive university education. On the other hand, those CIPFA students are also in paid employment and do have their employers’ support for study fees during traineeship. However, those days are gone. In view of government budget cut and slashing public sector jobs, the prospect of getting a traineeship post is dimness.
