Demand for accountancy staff raced bucked the trend of a flat jobs market over the summer, with positions for pre-qualified accountants at their highest since the start of the year, according to recruiter Reed.

The Reed Job Index showed a record demand for new accountants in August, 17% higher than when the index began in December 2009. Jobs for qualified accountants were also on the up but stopped just short of its previous May high.

It wasn’t all good news though, as salaries for pre-qualified accountants slipped back slightly. Qualified accountants salaries remained steady.
