Smiths FD retires after 28 years

Finance director Alan Humphrey is to step down after 28 years with WH Smiths and Smiths News. The UK’s largest wholesaler of newspapers and magazines.

Humphrey joined Smiths in 2002 and was on hand to help with the company’s demerger from WH Smiths in 2006.

Mark Cashmore, Group Chief Executive of Smiths News, said: “Alan has led the finance function superbly and his sound counsel and guidance during an unprecedented period of revenue and profit growth for the Company has been invaluable.”

Smiths is already looking for a replacement but Humphrey will remain with the company until an appointment is made.
