Marilyn Stitt, independent auditor of Hollinger International, said she was ‘surprised’ when senior executives at the company, owned by Conrad Black, pushed her to avoid disclosure of a $3.2bn (£1.6bn) deal with CanWest Global Communications.
Taking the stand in the Conrad Black trial, the KPMG accountant told the court that she’d had arguments with Hollinger’s then chief financial officer Jack Boultbee over the issue. Stitt said the payments were material related-party transactions.
