Rexam's former finance director Graham Chipchase is to succeed CEO Leslie Van de Walle from the beginning of the new year.

Chipchase has served on the board since February 2003, which he joined as FD. He moved to director of plastic packaging in 2005. Van de Walle retires from the board to concentrate on and develop his non-executive interests.

"He knows Rexam and its people well through his operational and financial roles and has demonstrated the leadership skills to take our company forward," said chairman Peter Ellwood of Chipchase's appointment.

"In my time as CEO we have established the foundations on which Rexam can build a successful future and both the Board and I believe that now is the right time to hand the reins over to Graham to take the business forward," said Van de Walle.
