UK bank customers are not put off by the increase in phishing and related fraud attacks

Third of UK surfers banking online

Brits seem unfazed by security concerns

Written by Ian Williams

Nearly 11 million UK citizens logged-on to at least one online banking account in January, representing 33 per cent of the total UK online population.

Market watcher comScore measured online banking activity, including the number of customers and the number of visits per month, excluding traffic from public computers or access from mobile devices.

Royal Bank of Scotland Group had the most online banking customers in the UK in January at 2.9 million, split between two million accessing NatWest and 900,000 accessing Royal Bank of Scotland.

The most popular individual online banking brand was Lloyds TSB with 2.8 million customers.

Lloyds TSB was also the most frequently visited online banking service in the study, averaging 6.8 visits per customer during January.

The figures suggest that customers trust the online security offered by banks, despite concerns about the increase in phishing and related fraud attacks reported by many IT security companies during last week's Infosec show in London.
