Google offers free BI for spreadsheets

Google partners with BI expert Panorama to develop free analytics and reporting

Written by Nicholas Neveling

Google upped the pressure on Microsoft Excel this week as it announced a partnership with business intelligence expert Panorama that will make an on-demand reporting and analytics tool freely available with the Google Docs suite.

The aim of the partnership will be to sharpen Google's desktop applications and make them more attractive to corporate users.

A beta version of the software has been released and offers analysis, reporting, dashboard and visualisation tools.

Madan Sheina, senior analyst at consultancy Ovum, said: 'Google will be hoping that this BI tie-up will be a boon to small and medium sized businesses that use Google Apps and want more enterprise-friendly capabilities.'
