Lucas joins the £1m club at Barclays

Banking giant's FD rakes in seven-figure windfall after only nine months in the FD chair

Written by David Jetuah

Chris Lucas has been paid more than £1m after only nine months as the FD of Barclays.

Breakdowns in the company's annual report showed that Lucas was paid £1.035m consisting of a £50,000 monthly wage and £585,000 in benefits and annual bonus.

His annual salary, which stood at £600,000, will now be increased to £650,000 as of next week.

Despite his good fortune, Lucas' pay packet is dwarfed by his predecessor's. Naguib Kheraj raked in more than £650,000 in the three months before his official departure on 31 March 2007. Kheraj's wage for his last full financial year as Barclays FD was £2.6m.
