Celebs back Snipes in tax trial

Hollywood's great and good line up to be character witnesses for 'Blade' star as jury selection drags on

Written by David Jetuah

More than 70 potential character witnesses including Muhammad Ali, Spike Lee, Woody Harrelson and Sylvester Stallone have said that they will vouch for Wesley Snipes' good character in his battle with tax authorities.

Snipes' lawyers read out a list of people willing to act as character witnesses at the US District Court in Ocala, Florida.

Jury selection was meant to be completed on Monday, but has carried over into today as Senior Judge William Terrell Hodges grilled the 37 potential jurors.

The Hollywood star and two co-defendants are accused of conspiring to defraud the US taxman of millions of dollars.

Lawyers for Snipes claim he was duped by unscrupulous advisers and did not know he was breaking the law.
