The taxman has released three new consultations on reforming the way it works to collect tax.
HM Revenue & Customs has published papers on reforming tax penalties, making sure taxpayers pay the right tax and also ensuring they pay what they owe.
'The further powers consultations are also another step towards a modern framework of law and practice for both HMRC powers and taxpayers safeguards, which will ultimately provide greater consistency across taxes and make HMRC more efficient and effective,' said financial secretary to the Treasury Jane Kennedy.
The consultations were launched alongside the plans for a new taxpayers' charter, which sets out taxpayer rights and responsibilities.
'The government is committed to ensuring that the tax system is useable and accessible and a Taxpayers' Charter will provide a good reference point for taxpayers,' she added.
