Paul Gray, who quit the top role at HM Revenue & Customs because of the missing child benefit data discs, is again working for the government.

Just two weeks after resigning following the revelation that millions of individuals' details were left on unencrypted discs that had gone missing, Gray is working for Sir Gus O'Donnell at the Cabinet Office on £200,000 a year, according to Channel 4.

The Cabinet Office said he remained a civil servant for contractual reasons, and would leave at the end of the year, retiring early next year.
